You Shouldn't Need to Be David Livingstone to Find a Pensioner Deal

There are some really good pensioner deals out there.

We know this because finding them is something we spend quite a bit of time doing.

And one of our more popular social media posts was our look at 10 malls around South Africa offering amazing pensioner deals and pensioner days.

We love finding these offers and sharing them.

But there is something we've noticed along the way.

Finding the deal isn't always quite as easy as getting the deal.

The great pensioner deal treasure hunt

A shopping centre might have a pensioner day, a particular shop might offer a discount, a restaurant might have a special.

All wonderful.

But sometimes finding out about it involves a little detective work.

You might have to search the mall's website, look through individual store pages, hunt around on social media or, in some cases, simply ask someone when you get there.

And then you still have to establish exactly what the deal is, when it applies and whether there are any conditions.

Which brings us back to our point.

We don't think you should need to be David Livingstone to find a pensioner discount.

If a business is kind enough to offer a deal, we'd like to make it as easy as possible for people to find it.

So when someone gets it right, we notice

This month, we came across a shopping centre that has done something very simple — and we think it deserves a little recognition.

Our August Pensioner-Friendly Business Award goes to...

Why? Because Willowbridge has put its pensioner deals all in one place.

No treasure map, no wandering around the website wondering where the information might be hiding, no having to remember which individual stores offer what.

It's the little things

We're not giving Willowbridge an award because we think they have the biggest or best pensioner discounts in South Africa.

That's not what this is about.

We're giving them a Pensioner-Friendly Business Award because they've made the information easy to find and that matters.

Because a discount that's difficult to discover isn't nearly as useful as one that's sitting there, clearly explained and ready to be used. It's a small thing, really but sometimes it's the small things that make life easier.

And perhaps we can give ourselves a little pat on the back too

Finding things like this is exactly why we started PensionersPayLess.

There are businesses doing good things for older customers, but they don't always make a song and dance about it — and sometimes their offers are surprisingly difficult to find.

So we go looking.

We find the deals.

We check out what's available.

And then we share them so that you don't have to spend your time doing the detective work.

We're not claiming to find everything — nobody could — but we're pretty pleased when we uncover something useful.

And finding a business like Willowbridge, which has already done the hard work of putting its offers together in one place, makes our job a whole lot easier too!

We hope other businesses take note

There are plenty of businesses and shopping centres offering deals to pensioners, and we'd love to see more of them.

And we'd love it even more if those businesses made their offers easy to find. Put them somewhere obvious, explain what the discount is, tell us when it's available, mention whether there are any conditions.

That's pretty much it.

No treasure hunt required.
