History

Val du Charron, which means Valley of the Wagonmakers, was actually the original name for Wellington. The town is a mere 10-minute drive from the farm. The name dates back to the late 1600s, when French Huguenots settled in the area and brought with them the crafts of winemaking and wagon building. The farm itself, originally called De Groenenbergh, was established in 1699. Today, Val du Charron proudly reflects this rich history – beautifully preserved and celebrated through the careful restoration work done by its current owners.

Winemaking runs deep in the du Toit family, who have been part of the Cape’s wine heritage for over 300 years. Since 1996, Stephan du Toit has carried on that legacy at Mont du Toit, inspired by fond childhood memories of his father’s wine farm.

Farmers, cellar workers, and bottlers all came together to bring it to life as a working winery, and from there, they began creating wines to share far beyond the town’s borders.

Wine selection

Robertson winery offers a large variety of wine products from boxes to bottles to bubbly.  Wine ranges and prices can be viewed here
